Looking For Signs
July 19, 2026 | Matthew 16.1-12 | Rob Collis
What happens when we put our small steps of faith into the hands of our mighty God? In Matthew’s Gospel, there are five times when Jesus talks about his followers having ‘little faith.' we can often read and hear this phrase as a term of derision or rebuke, but that doesn’t match with how Jesus responds to them. Whenever his disciples demonstrate even a small measure of faith in him, Jesus always responds by showing them something amazing about who he is!
This week Rob continues our series, Small and Mighty, by looking at Matthew 16.1-12. At first glance, Jesus’ disciples thought he just wanted to tell them something about old yeast and bread – but that was never what Jesus had in mind. Instead, Jesus is set on trying to increase their faith, as he invites us to see him clearly, and casts our minds back to what he has already done. Because, you see, when we can see Jesus clearly, and remember what he has already done – we can continue to grow in our confidence and trust in him.
